We are delighted to be hosting guest examiner, Sensei Ivan Birch 7th Dan, who will run a training & kyu grading for us on 2 December 2023.

Sensei Ivan started his karate journey in 1975, became a founder member of the University of Brighton karate club while a 4^th kyu, helped start the Red Lion Shotokan Karate Club in Eastbourne in 1985 where he still trains and teaches, and is co-founder & Chairperson of our governing association Shotokan Connect and sits on its Quality Assurance panel.

• 9.00am onwards: Registration
• 9.15am-10.15am: Brown & black belts only
• 10.15am-11.15am: All grades
• 11.30am-2.45pm: Kyu grading

Points to note:

• Please pay in advance to speed up your registration on the day.
• Training only: £10 or included for Senshi Karate students who pay term upfront for Saturdays; non-members of Shotokan Connect welcome for the same price
• Training & kyu grading: £25 or £15 for Senshi Karate students who pay term upfront for Saturdays. Shotokan Connect members only. This includes your belt & certificate if you’re successful. You must train to grade.
• Make sure your licence with Shotokan Connect is in date. No licence, no grading!
• There is parking onsite.
• There are changing rooms onsite.
• As is the custom, we will pop to the Red Lion pub in Shooters Hill for a lemonade or a half pint after the grading.
