Karate demo at GMV Summer Fayre, 15 July 2023

The summer fayre run by the Greenwich Millennium Village Residents Association and organised by our own Sensei Arianna returned, and once again we gave a karate demonstration. We had our best attendance yet by our students despite the weather: one minute it was sunny, then rainy, but mostly it was windy. Too windy, in fact, for them to erect the bouncy castle which left some of our younger members disappointed. Before our demo, one of our younger members Sarah, took to the stage to sing. She was impressive!

We grouped our members according to belt and each group demonstrated their kata, with each group becoming increasingly more senior. Each group also demonstrated their kumite. Finally, we rounded off with the ever-popular queue of people waiting in line to punch and kick the strike shield held by Sensei Frank with members of the club and members of the public all keen to participate! Like last year, Sensei Frank then took all students who participated to the ice cream van. And Sarah’s mum, Marzenka, shared some fantastic and tasty homemade Polish cakes for those from the club.

Again, there were live bands, a Bollywood dancing demo, face painting, a stall by the local ecology park, candy floss, ice cream, football, food & drink! It was a great day and thanks to all our students for attending.
