Competition & grading bootcamp

Competition & grading bootcamp

We have three competitions coming up on 3 October, 1 & 15 November. We also have kyu gradings on 4 & 7 November and a possible Dan grading on 5 December!

To help get students ready, we are running a competition & grading bootcamp as follows:

Every Wednesday in September 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30th:

  • 1835-1935: Kata
  • 1940-2040: Kumite

Kata

We will focus on all the Heians and Tekki Shodan. We will also focus on what senior katas are suitable for you as an individual and run through them. We will practice in grading format to identify the types of issue examiners watch for. We will discuss the competition format, the way to enter the tatami and the scoring system.

Kumite

We will focus on the different types of kumite permitted at competition: jukuren and jiyu kumite. We will practice kumite drills, footwork and tactics to get you ready for grading and competition. Note: we will not focus on ippon kumite, jiyu ippon kumite or kaihi ippon kumite. We will do that in the other classes during the week.

Who is invited?

These classes are open to all students who are hoping to grade or compete in the next 6 months. Note the restrictions above on kumite.
