Sensei Bob Rhodes, 8th Dan, ran a special kata course for us. Sensei is a renowned master at kata and his bunkai (application) demonstrations are legendary so who better to do this for us?
In the all-grades class we worked on a number of facets of kata. First we worked on the 180° and 270° turns in kata, then we worked on sequences from Heian Shodan, Heian Nidan, Heian Sandan and Heian Yondan. In the senior class, we ran through Heian Godan, Bassai Dai and Nijushiho. The latter is a kata for those going for 2nd Dan so it was an eye-opener for the purple belts! Sensei Neil Jerome attended too in advance of him teaching on Saturday July 6th.
Afterwards Sensei Bob ran a small grading for two students who were unable to make the one last month. We’re delighted to say both students passed and we have the following new grades:
- Katya, 5th kyu
- Louise, 7th kyu
